The DSG Dual Idler Gear Drive & Phaser Kit replaces the weak timing chains in the 6.2/6.5 engines. Better camshaft injection pump timing for better starts and crisper, snappier acceleration. Relucter wheel for electronic applications is CNC-machined for more accurate firing.
The timing chain used on the 6.2L and 6.5L engines cannot withstand the continuous shock loads transmitted to it via the injection pump, which can reach peak pressures in excess of 12,000psi. These shock loads, coupled with the extra stress of driving the high lift camshaft and fuel injection pump contribute to accelerated chain wear. The loads cause the chain to wear, and the resulting vibration can lead to severe and expensive problems:
- Broken main bearing castings.
- Sheared crankshaft keys.
- Broken harmonic balancers.
- Unstable timing - poor performance.
- Poor fuel economy.
- Premature contamination of engine oil.
