HARD OR NO STARTING?

Cranking over, but takes a log time to get going, or does not start at all.

We prefer a logistic approach to get your problem resolved. This could be anything from loose battery cables to low engine compression, so we need to start with the basics, regardless of the engine brand.

Here are some basics to try:

Reduced Battery Power: Batteries can lose up to 60% of their cranking capacity at 0°F preventing the engine from spinning fast enough.

Fuel Gelling: Diesel fuel can thicken and form wax crystals at low temperatures, blocking fuel filters and lines.

Failed Glow Plugs/Relays or intake air heaters: If the glow plugs fail to heat the combustion chamber, the cold cylinder walls absorb too much heat to allow ignition.

Thick Oil: Engine oil thickens in cold weather, increasing internal friction and dragging down the starter motor.

Low Compression: Worn engines or carbon buildup on piston rings can make it harder to achieve the high pressure required for combustion.

We have found that oil pan heaters do a better job of preparing the engine for a cold start.
